The Chicago Sky are proud to partner with Harmony Health Plan, Inc., a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE:WCG), on their 2017 EmPowerHer health initiative to educate women, men and the community on preventive health services and resources to help them live better healthier lives. Sky forward, Jessica Breland, who overcame Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, will serve as the Harmony EmPowerHer player ambassador during a yearlong health initiative to help promote Harmony’s monthly health topics and messaging around (11) critical health measures.
“We are extremely happy to partner up with Harmony Health Plan, Inc. to further educate women and families in the Chicagoland area on the importance of living healthy lives,” said James Burda, Vice President of Marketing Partnerships. “One of the Sky Cares Foundation pillars is Health and Wellness, and partnering with Harmony allows us the opportunity to reach a broader audience, and together we’ll strive to make a positive impact in our community.”
In 2016 Harmony launched its EmPowerHer campaign, which is a community-based initiative to empower women to take preventive care measures around 11 key health conditions affecting them and their communities. After making the decision to visit her doctor for what she thought was a cold, Breland was taken in for testing and was later diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2009. After receiving the proper care, she was announced cancer-free and is now an advocate for screenings and preventive care.
In addition to women, the 2017 Harmony Health EmPowerHer initiative will include EmPowerMe, which focuses on men’s health and EmPowerUs to mobilize partners and communities collectively. The EmPowerHer campaign will include the collaborative work of 15+ community-based organizations, providers and media partners throughout Cook County.
“Harmony launched the EmPowerHer initiative because we recognized that the mothers and wives in our lives are so busy taking care of us, they can often lose track of their own health and wellness needs,” said Miguel Torres, Harmony’s senior director of field sales and marketing. “We are proud to partner with Chicago Sky in 2017 and are excited that through this and other partnerships, more members of the community can receive the resources they need to live better, healthier, lives.”
