Elena Delle Donne made history in her third WNBA season. In 2015 Delle Donne became the first Sky player to receive the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award after she led the league in scoring for the entire season. She finished the regular season averaging 23.4 points, as well as 8.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, all of which were Delle Donne’s career-best averages.
Delle Donne opened the 2015 season creating highlights, including a 40-point performance at Tulsa on June 6. Later that month, she erupted for 45 points and 11 rebounds in the Sky’s 100-96 overtime victory over Atlanta on June 24. In that game Delle Donne also made a franchise record 19 free throws. Delle Donne set another Sky record in June when she made 54 consecutive free throws between June 19 and June 30. She went on to earn the Eastern Conference Player of the Month Award for games played in June.
For the second year in her career, Delle Donne led the league in All-Star votes. She recorded 16 points and eight rebounds as a starter for the Eastern Conference All-Star team coached by the Chicago Sky coaching staff.
Other notable highlights of Delle Donne’s 2015 season include recording a career-high 14 rebounds (6/26), scoring 20-plus points in 21 regular season games, recording 10 double-doubles and breaking a franchise record for most points scored in a playoff game (40 points, 9/21). Additionally, Delle Donne was recognized as Eastern Conference Player of the Week five times, the most any Sky player has earned the honor in a single season. Delle Donne became the third fastest player in WNBA history to score 1,000 points her career; she hit her mark in 52 games.
On top of Delle Donne’s remarkable season, she was unanimously voted to the All-WNBA First Team. Her 2015 free throw percentage is the highest free throw percentage by any WNBA player with a minimum of 100 free throws attempted in a season.
