Week 6: Christ the King Gladiators
The Chicago Sky has selected Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School as the sixth weekly winner of its 2016 “High School Team of the Week” program. They receive the honor after being nominated for their outstanding work on the court, in the community and in the classroom.
The Christ the King Gladiators are coming off a historic season, in which they became the first team in school history to advance to sectionals in the IHSA playoffs. The Gladiators have carried their success from last year into this season as they currently hold a 15-6 record.
Along with their athletic success this season, the team has worked towards a combined grade point average of 3.22 on a 4.0 scale. The student-athletes participate in school service projects, including Saturday morning dignity breakfasts. The team committed part of its summer last year to service trips in Chicago, Kentucky and West Virginia. The young ladies have been recognized for their abilities to maintain strong academic and athletic efforts while participating in corporate work-study jobs.
Christ the King is the sixth program to be acknowledged as a 2016 award recipient. As a Chicago Sky “High School Basketball Team of the Week” award winner, the Christ the King Gladiators are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.
