Sky Waive Wyckoff, Sign Katie Feenstra Mattera

CHICAGO, September 1, 2009 - The Chicago Sky have waived veteran forward Brooke Wyckoff and signed center Katie Feenstra Mattera, Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key announced.

Mattera, a 6-8 center, is in her fifth WNBA season. Earlier this season she was released by the San Antonio Silver Stars after appearing in 13 games. She currently averages 2.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. Aside from adding size to the Sky lineup, Mattera brings her playoff experience with her to Chicago.

Wyckoff injured the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in her left knee with 3:37 left in the fourth quarter of the Skys August 28th win against the New York Liberty in Chicago. Due to the severity of her injury, Wyckoff is not able to play for the remainder of the season.

Brooke was an essential player for this team since our inagural season. She is that veteran that every team needs to lend a hand to the rookies, and support the veterans, said Sky Head Coach and General Manager Steven Key. This is a tough injury that is always come unexpectatly and could essentially happen to anyone. Brooke will always be a member of this team, and we wish her a speedy recovery.

Wyckoff was selected by the Sky in the 2005 WNBA Expansion Draft. In 2009, she started 23 of the Skys 27 games and averaged 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.
