Sky vs. Sun The Rematch

The season is still early, but the battle for the Eastern Conference top position is already heating up between the early 2011 leaders, as Connecticut visits Chicago at Allstate Arena this Thursday, June 23 at 7:00 p.m.

The Sky held off the Sun in a thrilling three point victory (78-75) in the home opener on June 10, due in part to a dominating performance by Sylvia Fowles. Fowles had 23 points, 13 rebounds and outplayed her center counterpart Tina Charles (eight points, four rebounds).

In the second contest, held in Uncasville, Connecticut, the Sun returned the favor, outscoring the Sky 83 to 68 on a masterful performance by Charles, who scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Fowles did her best to keep the Sky in it scoring 23 in the loss, but Charles was not to be denied, admitting to taking the first defeat personally.

With the WNBAs two most dominant post players battling to a draw, it will likely be up to the guards to decide the outcome.

Sky rookie Courtney Vandersloot was hot from the field in Chicagos first matchup with the Sun hitting all four of her three-point attempts and finishing with 18 points. Epiphanny Prince came through in the second matchup scoring 18 points including 4 three-pointers as well.

Connecticuts Renee Montgomery poured in 22 points in game one. Kara Lawsons 13 points, 3 assists and heady leadership made a difference in game two.

The question is, who will step up in the rubber match.
