The Chicago Sky traded center Ashley Robinson to the Seattle Storm Thursday, June 29, after the Skys 75-69 victory over the Charlotte Sting. The Sky will receive the Storms second-round draft pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft.
Robinson is in her third year in the WNBA, and is currently averaging 1.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in 10.2 minutes per game this season. She spent her first two seasons in the league with the Phoenix Mercury before being taken by the Sky in the 2005 WNBA Expansion Draft.
The trade will help us build for the future, said Sky general manager and head coach Dave Cowens. The second-round pick that we acquired will help add talent and depth to our roster next year and will benefit the team over time.
The trade will help the Storm this season as they make a push towards the playoffs. Seattle currently has a record of 9-8 and sits 4th in the Western Conference standings.
Seattle is a little banged up right now with their post players, Ashley will be a great addition to the Storms inside presence, said Cowens.
As a rookie, Robinson ranked third in blocks per 40 minutes (3.1) and ninth in steals per 40 minutes (2.46).
Robinson, 64 attended the University of Tennessee where she was named to the SEC All-Freshman team and started all 35 games for the Lady Vols in her senior season.
