Sky defeat Mystics

Highlights

The Chicago Sky managed to snap their three game losing streak when they defeated the 2-6 Washington Mystics 78-65 Tuesday night at Allstate Arena. After a slow start, center Sylvia Fowles and guard Epiphanny Prince led the Sky offense to a 35-24 lead at the half. Rookie Angie Bjorklund also added a basket, her first as a professional in the league.

The Sky continued their scoring streak in the second quarter, going on a 6-0 run to bring them out of a 19-19 tie with the Mystics. Fowles led the Sky offense to a 35-24 lead at the half, scoring 14 points as well as pulling down a demanding 14 rebounds.

In the second half the Sky began to pull away, shooting 54% from the floor, resulting in a 54-41 Sky lead at the end of the third quarter. Sky center Sylvia Fowles continued to have a stellar night, putting up 17 points and grabbing four rebounds. Center Michelle Snow also had an impressive third quarter with two rebounds, ending the quarter with nine total.

The fourth quarter was much of the same as the team continued to outhustle the Mystics. The hot hands of Prince snagged three steals as Fowles dazzled the fans with her fancy footwork at the block. Tamera Young added nine points and rookie Courtney Vandersloot contributed five.

The 5-6 Chicago Sky will look to defend their home court when they face the Atlanta Dream 7pm Sunday evening at Allstate Arena.
