Lincoln-Way East High School Named Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week

The Chicago Sky has named Lincoln-Way East High School varsity girls basketball team as this weeks 2011-2012 Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week.

The Lincoln-Way East Griffins are currently a perfect 7-0 on the season with big wins over ranked opponents Marian Catholic and Homewood-Flossmoor. The team from the south-suburbs is ranked No.8 in Illinois by the Chicago Tribune and No. 12 by the Chicago Sun-Times, and is made up of six seniors, five juniors and one sophomore. With a balanced attack on the court led by star players Caitlin McMahon (Sr.) and Taylor Johnson (Sr.), the Griffins are ready to make a run at the state championship. The team will look to keep their perfect season alive as they host the Medieval Classic December 26 through the 29.

Our motto this season been team chemistry, and we even have a chart of the periodic table as a reminder, said coach Jim Martin. I really wanted the girls to focus on building team chemistry and doing the right things. With the right elements we can accomplish anything.

The teams energy and drive to be the very best on the court, is a direct result of their efforts off it. This January the team will participate in Free Throws for Heroes in partnership with Charity Stripe. A non-profit dedicated to raising funds for the men and women of the armed serves with financial and /or emotional hardships, such as debilitating illness and natural disasters. Each member of the team will shoot 100 free throws and donate the proceeds to Charity Stripe and Cancer Centers of America. The teams goal this year is $1,000.

As an Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2012 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the worlds best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court and will receive an award to recognize their accomplishments.

The Sky will recognize a new High School Team of the Week award winner every week until February 17, 2012. To nominate a team for the Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week, click here. The Sky will accept nominations from parents, coaches, faculty members, and players.
