Chicago Sky Names Whitney M. Young Magnet High School Action Floor Systems High School Team of the Week

The Chicago Sky has named Whitney M. Young Magnet High School varsity girls basketball team as this weeks 2011-2012 High School Team of the Week award winner presented by Action Floor Systems.

The Whitney Young Lady Dolphins have exhibited success on and off the basketball court as they strive to make a real difference in their school and community. The Lady Dolphins have high expectations for this season and have been ranked No. 2 in Illinois. They attribute their great success to their three As mantra: Academic, Artistic, and Athletic. The As remind the players that their lives as students and individuals come before their lives as basketball players and helps them maintain a balance between on and off court activities. The mixed team of five seniors, three juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen is looking to start their on-court season off right when they face Crane tomorrow night at Whitney M. Young Magnet High School.

The high expectations the team holds themselves to on the court are directly translated to the work they do off the court. They are involved in so many community service opportunities, stated head coach Corry Irvin. Just next week, the girls are heading to Child Serve to help with gift wrapping for children in foster care. Their excellence on the court and their dedication to their community make the Lady Dolphins a very special team.

As a High School Team of the Week award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to a 2012 Sky regular season home game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the worlds best female basketball players. During the game, they will also be honored on court where they will receive an award to recognize their accomplishments.
