Carolyn Swords may be the nice girl out of Boston College, but the 6-6 rookie Center showed fans, teams and coaches that nice girls can battle when they have to, as Swords finished the 2011 season starting the last four games for the Sky.

Swords did not get a lot of playing time at the start of the season backing up veterans Michelle Snow and All-Star Sylvia Fowles, as she only averaged 5.3 minutes a game in the first three months of the season, but showed Head Coach Pokey Chatman that she had what it takes to be a player in the WNBA. In her first game as a starter, Swords came out and scored eight points, two rebounds and was 4-of-4 from the field.

"I was really just trying to do what I can to help, said Swords, after starting in her second game against Minnesota Lynx on September 8. It really helps having a dominant player like Syl in there to play off of. She makes it easy to pass into her and I get open because she draws attention. It's really in the system and with my teammates who are really helping me out."

In that game Swords finished with nine points, four assists, eight rebounds and three blocks, all season highs. As a starter Swords shot 70% from the field and finished the season averaging 2.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
