A Big Challenge Awaits in Minnesota, but the Sky Have Reasons to be Confident

The Lynx may have the best record in the WNBA, but they had their hands full last time against the Chicago Sky, as they narrowly escaped Allstate Arena with a 79-76 victory.

Chicago trailed 61-54 entering the fourth quarter and pulled to 64-63 with 6:54 remaining in the fourth quarter when Shay Murphy hit a running layup. Candice Wiggins made back-to-back 3s to restore Minnesota's seven-point lead, but the Sky battled back again scoring six consecutive points in a 34-second span, on two free throws and a bank shot by Sylvia Fowles and a layup by Shay Murphy, to pull to 78-76 with 39 seconds to go. Only a Murphy missed layup with three seconds to go kept the game from going into overtime.

Fowles was unstoppable all evening, scored 28 points on 11-for-13 shooting to lead the Sky. Tamera Young added 16 points, while Epiphanny Prince had 12. But in the end, Minnesotas many offensive options prevailed as seven Lynx players scored at least six points as the team shot 7-14 from three point range. Lindsay Whalen led the Lynx with 16 points. Seimone Augustus had 14, and Rookie of the Year candidate Maya Moore had 13. Wiggins added 12 off the bench.

When youre playing the best team in the league the margin of error is pretty small, said Head Coach Pokey Chatman following the teams last game against the Lynx. We were not in the right defensive schemes at the end of [the game] and they were plus ten on the boards.

The Lynx come into Thursday nights game with a 7-2 record versus the Eastern Conference and have only lost two games in the entire month of August. However, the Sky has been playing well as well, winning 4 of their last 6 before facing Indiana on Sunday.

Its going to be a challenging game for the Sky, but a must win on the road. Tune in to Comcast Xfinity CN100 for all of the action.
