Coach Key Reports From Germany

Hey, Sky fans!!! Hey, Coach Key!!! Sorry, I couldnt resist Ive always wanted to do that during a game.

Coach Key here, and Im checking in to keep all you Sky fans up to date on the Sky players overseas. Being here in Germany gives me a chance to pay close attention to how theyre doing all over Europe. Now that the players have had a couple months to get acquainted with their new surroundings, I thought it was time to give you the scoop.

Chasity Melvin and Jia Perkins are playing on different teams in Israel this off-season and both teams are fairing pretty well. They are presently tied for 2nd place, with each team having a 4-1 record. Jia is averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game, while Chas is averaging 18.5 points and is shooting 70 percent. Chas is seventh overall in the league in rebounds with 9 per game and both are in the top ten in scoring. Both teams are also playing against other top teams in Europe, in a season-long European competition. Jias team has a 3-0 record with three games remaining in this round, while Chasitys team is 2-1. Both teams are expected to make it to the next round which starts in January.

Cathy Joens and Brooke Wyckoff opted to play in the Spanish league this winter. Although it is Cathys first time playing in Spain, the overseas veteran is enjoying a good first season with her team, Rivas Futura. CJ is averaging 14 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game and her team is currently in sixth place with a 3-2 record. Brooke is playing in her second season with team Cajacanarias, which is currently in ninth place. Her team had a rough 0-2 start, but bounced back and is currently 2-3 in the league. That success has carried over to the European Cup competition, where they are presently 3-0 and at the top of group standings. Brooke is averaging 6 points and 8 rebounds after five games. She is currently in the top ten in several categories: fifth in rebounding, fourth in steals and first in blocked shots.

Moving on over to Poland, Candice Dupree and Dominique Canty are playing exceptionally well. Candice is playing for Wisla Can-Pack, located in the city of Krakow, while Dominique is playing with league rival Lotos PKO BP Gdynia. Both teams are also playing in European competition. Candices team is 2-1 in the group standings, while Dom and her team suffered a recent loss and are now 1-2. Within the Polish league, both teams are undefeated: Wisla is 9-0 and Lotos is 8-0. Candice is averaging 13 points, 6 rebounds and almost 2 assists per game. Dom is averaging 8 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assist per game.

Liz Moeggenberg is playing in France with team Tarbes, and they are off to a bit of a rough start. They are currently 1-4 within the French league and in last place. To make matters worse, their coach was recently replaced. The team has a different standing in European competition with a 3-0 record. Liz is continuing her last season overseas success, averaging 12 points and 6 rebounds. Also playing in France is Sky rookie Carla Thomas. Thomas is off to a good international career with her team ARRAS and is averaging 12 points and 7 rebounds per game. To top it off, Thomas recently had a 32 point career-high game.

The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Armintie Price is in Russia for her first European season. Her team Shelen is struggling a bit, in what is considered the most powerful league in Europe. Though still winless with a 0-7 record, I have seen good improvement in the teams box scores, and dont predict that record lasting much longer. AP is averaging 15 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

Well, that is about it for this check-in. Look for my next blog after the upcoming holiday season, when Ill give yall more updates on the players progress as their individual seasons continue. I know I speak for all the Sky fans in saying GOOD LUCK SKY PLAYERS!!

Also, my wife and I would like to thank all for logging on and congratulating us on the birth of our daughter, Sidney Kiana. We look forward to seeing everyone soon.
