2015 Season Recap: June
The 2015 season kicked off with the revealing of the first Sky banner in the rafters of Allstate Arena – the 2014 WNBA Eastern Conference Champions banner. The reigning Eastern Conference Champions, along with a few new faces, returned to Allstate on June 5 for opening night against the Indiana Fever. Elena Delle Donne scored 31 points in the Sky’s 95-72 victory over Indiana. The following night, Delle Donne posted a then-career high of 40 points on the road at Tulsa.
On June 19 versus Atlanta, Courtney Vandersloot scored the 1,000th point of her WNBA career and was the seventh Sky player to reach 1,000 points. Elena Delle Donne achieved the same feat on June 20 at San Antonio and did so in the least amount of games in franchise history. By reaching the 1,000-point milestone in 52 games, Delle Donne was the third fastest player in WNBA history to hit the mark.
Delle Donne’s night of history came on June 24 as the Sky faced the Atlanta Dream on Camp Day. Before a sellout crowd, Delle Donne topped her previous career high with a 45-point performance and recorded a career-high six blocks. Delle Donne went 19-for-19 from the free throw line, which was the third most free throws made in a game in WNBA history. She is one of four WNBA players to record two 40+ point games in the same season and one of 12 players in WNBA history to score 40+ points in a game. Delle Donne earned Eastern Conference Player of the Month after totaling 287 points (28.7 ppg) in 10 games, the most by any WNBA player in her team’s first 10 games. She recorded 9.9 rebounds per game and 2.6 blocks per game, both being the top averages in the league that month.
