2015 Season Recap: July
The Sky opened the month of July with a four-game win streak, which included three home wins. Cappie Pondexter and Elena Delle Donne both posted 24 points in Chicago’s 90-83 win versus Minnesota, followed by a season-high 29 points for Pondexter in Chicago’s 20-point defeat over Connecticut on July 12. Pondexter’s performances during the week of July 6 through July 12 gained her the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honor.
For the second consecutive year, Delle Donne led the Eastern Conference in All-Star votes; she received 18,034 votes to lead the league for the second time in her three years in the WNBA. Alongside Delle Donne to represent the East in the 2015 WNBA All-Star Game, which took place at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, was seven-time All-Star Pondexter. The Sky coaching staff had the honor of coaching the East in the All-Star Game after winning the Eastern Conference in 2014. Thought the East could not hang on for the win, Delle Donne paced the East’s starters with 16 points and Pondexter contributed four points and five rebounds off the bench.
Shortly after the team’s return from All-Star break, Chicago welcomed a new body in the post on July 27 with a three-team trade that brought Erika de Souza to Chicago from Atlanta and sent Sylvia Fowles to Minnesota.
