Sky vs Fever Preview 9/9

The Chicago Sky resumes its three-game road swing Friday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse for a matchup against the Indiana Fever. The Sky fell to the Washington Mystics, 118-81 on Wednesday night. Chicago (15-14) is currently tied for fourth place in the WNBA standings with Atlanta, with the Fever (14-15) just one game behind.

The Sky were seemingly short-handed in Wednesday’s loss in Washington, with injuries occurring to Elena Delle Donne (thumb) and Tamera Young (ankle) in the first half and causing them to miss the remainder of the game. Cheyenne Parker did not dress for the second consecutive game due to an existing ankle injury. Courtney Vandersloot and Cappie Pondexter carried Chicago’s offense, scoring 17 and 16 points, respectively. Vandersloot dished a game-high eight assists. Washington had six players score in double figures and produced its best scoring production in the history of the franchise.

Indiana is coming off a 71-69 win against the San Antonio Stars on Tuesday night, despite Tamika Catchings only scoring one point; She managed to collect eight rebounds in 21 minutes. Lynetta Kizer paced Indiana with 15 points off the bench, followed by 12 points each from Briann January and Shenise Johnson.

The last game between the Sky and the Fever on June 29 resulted in a home loss for Chicago, 95 to 83. Delle Donne scored a team-best 21 points on 7-of-11 (.636) shooting from the field. Cappie Pondexter posted 12 points and six assists, while Imani Boyette added 12 points off the bench. Fever forward Tamika Catchings led all scorers with 26 points in the last game of her career at Allstate Arena. The series is split 1-1 between Chicago and Indiana with Friday’s contest being the determining game.
