After a tough loss against the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, the Chicago Sky look to complete the last of three matchups between the Washington Mystics with a win on Friday July 13 at Capital One Arena.
Facing the Mystics
Washington and Chicago have already played twice against each other this season, with Washington capturing both wins. Overall, the Sky have a 22-27 record against the Mystics.
In their first game against the Mystics, Cheyenne Parker came off the bench to lead the team in points and rebounds as well as recording 88.3 percent from the free throw line, her season high. The Sky’s defense held the Mystics to 27.3 percent from behind the arc.
Their second meeting of the season came as a highly anticipated matchup as former Sky player Elena Delle Donne returned to Chicago. Despite losing, rookie Gabby Williams notched her season high from behind the free throw line sinking 6-for-6 shots as well as leading the team in rebounds. The Sky outscored the Mystics in the paint 30 to 22 as well as in fast break points by four. Chicago has outscored their opponents in fast break points in their last five games, look out for them to continue to create these opportunities.
The Sky remain on the brink of a playoff appearance, with a win against the Mystics giving the team an extra push to grab the No. 8 seed in their remaining games this season.
Players to Watch
Moving from the bench to the court, Parker has started in two straight games this season and led the team in rebounds in her last appearance against the Aces. She also recorded eight points and went 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Parker leads the team in blocks at 1.2 per game and in rebounds at 6.8 per game.
Veteran guard Courtney Vandersloot continues to lead the league in assists, averaging 7.6 per game. The Sky will rely on Vandersloot to continue to create scoring opportunities.
Another veteran guard Allie Quigley leads the Sky in points averaging 16.4 points per game. Ranked fifth in the league for three point percentage, look for Quigley to continue to make an impact from behind the arc.
