After 6 years with the team, Tamera Young has been with the Sky longer than any other player on this year’s roster and Sky fans have come to know her well but during media day this year we sat down with the veteran to chat about some off the court topics and here’s what we found:
Q: What are your favorite road cities to play in?
A: “Atlanta, L.A., and New York because Atlanta is the closest to home so a lot of my family and friends come, and in New York I have a lot of my family and there’s great shopping. L.A. is just a beautiful city with great shopping too”.
Q: Which Tattoo is your favorite and what does it mean to you?
A: “I really love all of my tattoos, but my favorite right now is probably my more recent one, the angel for my dad that just passed on April 6th, I made the face so that it symbolizes him.”
Q: What do you do to relax?
A: ” To relax, for me, I’m either cleaning my house and listening to music or laying on the couch watching movies.”
Q: Favorite Movie?
A: “My favorite movie of all-time is probably Love & Basketball
Q: If you could change one thing about the world what would it be?
A: “If I could change one thing about the world it would probably be the violence. I think there’s been a lot of violence lately and if I could change that I think it would help this world.”
Q: What made an impact on you in your youth?
A: “Going to Girls Inc., an after school program I was involved with where I started playing basketball and did different after school programs and activities throughout the summer. It made a great impact on my life just being involved with other kids and learning different things about myself as an individual and a woman as well as sports”
Q: Who inspires you?
A: ” My mother”
Q: If you could have dinner with one person who would it be and why?
A: “Michael Jordan, I’ve always been a big fan and we’re from the same high school, same town, but I’ve never had the opportunity to meet him.”
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: “My hard work, a giving heart, loyalty, and being a good person to others.”
Q: Favorite book?
A: “The Bible, that’s probably the most consistent book I read on a daily basis and always learn something new from.”
Q: If you weren’t playing basketball what would you be?
A: “I’d probably be in the music industry, I used to be in a band, I played the drums, and my band director in high school wanted me to continue in college and was disappointed when I stopped for basketball”.
Q: Favorite Holiday?
A: “Christmas. Being with my family and celebrating Christ.”
Q: What other sport would you play if it you were not playing basketball?
A: “Track, or Volleyball. I ran the 400, 200, and did Long Jump in High School Track”
Q: What’s your personal mission statement?
A: “Prove doubters wrong.”
