Week 8: Thornton Township Wildcats
The Chicago Sky has selected Thornton Township High School as the eighth weekly winner of its 2017 “High School Team of the Week” program presented by Robert Morris University Illinois. The Wildcats receive this honor after being nominated for their accomplishments on the court, in the classroom and in the community.
The Wildcats pride themselves on being exemplary student athletes and constantly striving for success on and off the court. This group of young ladies currently has a combined average GPA of 3.5 and they also participate in International Baccalaureate and Advanced placement programs. When they are not practicing or studying they volunteer to help with various youth sports in their local community such as the annual Rod Higgins Youth Camp at the Bethlehem Temple in Harvey.
Thornton Township’s record is 11-14 and a highlight of their season thus far has been winning the Bobby Bolton Classic over Thanksgiving. This group of young ladies has had to overcome various challenges such as dealing with the deaths of family members and a past teammate but they have been able to stick together and remain focused on the upcoming regional and sectional games.
Supported by Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, each Chicago Sky “High School Team of the Week” award winner will be invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.
