Week 7: Peoria Lions

The Chicago Sky has selected Peoria High School as the seventh weekly winner of its 2016 “High School Team of the Week” program. They receive the honor after being nominated for their athletic success and involvement in the community.

The Peoria Lions have used this season to establish team cohesiveness as they work towards achieving their team goal of advancing to the IHSA State Tournament. The program’s biggest achievement this season was earning second place at Peoria Manual’s Holiday Tournament, which included several Illinois-ranked schools. The Lions are 17-7 on the season and continue to grow as a team as the regular season comes to a close.

Along with their athletic success this season, the players continually dedicate their time to promoting a positive image for their school. In the summer of 2015, the Lions participated in the Mayor’s Youth Program by cleaning up economically disadvantaged areas of Peoria, sand bagging the Illinois River and landscaping the Peoria Riverfront.

As a Chicago Sky “High School Basketball Team of the Week” award winner, the Peoria Lions are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.
