Week 8: Lyons Township Lady Lions
The Lady Lions varsity team competes in the West Suburban Conference and opened the 2014-15 season with nine consecutive wins, including a tournament title at home. With a current record of 19-6, the team recently secured the West Suburban Conference Championship title, and will look to continue that success in IHSA postseason play later this month.
Off the court, the Lady Lions have been dedicated to making a difference in their local community. Earlier this year the team hosted a pair of fundraisers for the families of several underserved students at their school. The team also held a free throw shot-a-thon in support of the Kelli O’Laughlin Memorial Fund. The event raised $1,200 in total to create scholarship opportunities for youth. Additionally, the team hosted its first “Think Pink” game this season, raising $2,300 to help a sophomore student at Lyons Township and the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
Lyons Township High School joins Oswego High School, Luther North College Prep, Glenbard East High School, Beecher High School, J. Sterling Morton High School, Reavis High School and Benet Academy as a 2015 award recipient. As a Chicago Sky “High School Basketball Team of the Week” award winner, the Lyons Township Lady Lions are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. At halftime of the game, the team will be honored at center court.
