Week 2: Luther North Wildcats

The Chicago Sky has selected Luther North College Prep as the second “High School Team of the Week” winner for its 2015 competition. The Luther North College Prep girls’ basketball team earned the honor after being nominated for outstanding efforts and achievements on the court and in the community.

The Luther North Wildcats team focuses on individual player and team development as the keys to success, and they’re fielding a young roster of players this season. Many of their key players are underclassmen, and after opening the year in a challenging Thanksgiving tournament the Wildcats are now 2-5 and ready to continue growing through conference play.

When they’re not on the court, the Wildcats work together on volunteer projects throughout the community. This season, the team is spending one day each week focusing on making a difference in the lives of others. So far, they have raised money for education by running their school’s Market Day program, held a free basketball clinic for local children, and assisted with an event at a local grammar school. Later this month, the team will spend a day preparing and serving food at a local soup kitchen.

Luther North joins Oswego High School as the first two 2015 award recipients. As a Chicago Sky “High School Basketball Team of the Week” award winner, the Luther North Wildcats are invited to enjoy a Chicago Sky game, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on the court.
