Week 1: Oswego Panthers
The Chicago Sky selected Oswego High School as the first “High School Team of the Week” winner for their 2015 competition. The Oswego High School girls’ basketball team earned the honor after being nominated for outstanding efforts and achievements within their team and local community.
The Oswego Panthers play in the Southwest Prairie Conference, and entered the 2015 season following a successful 2013-14 campaign. Last year, the Panthers posted a 24-6 record to secure the Southwest Prairie Conference championship title.
The Panthers kicked off the 2014-15 season with a Thanksgiving tournament where they went 3-2 against several challenging opponents. Three of their starters have made early commitments to play at Division 1 schools after graduation, and the Panthers are looking forward to their first regular season game against Plainfield South later this week.
While the team has achieved a lot of success on the court, their accomplishments off the court are even more impressive. Many of the players also have part time jobs and heavy academic workloads, but they all carve out time to be catalysts for change in their community. Last month, the athletes held a fundraiser at the local Culver’s to raise money for Connor Robinson, a local boy who is suffering from leukemia. Through their charitable efforts, the Panthers raised $20,000 to help Connor and his family.
